Eurasia Waste Management Symposium,

2-4 May, 2016, İstanbul

Automotive plants produce from 1.5 to 5.0 kg of paint sludge per painted car. The generated sludge, called paint waste, is managed as hazardous waste with a waste code of 080113*. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential for using water-based paint sludge as an admixture in Portland cement concrete or geopolymer concrete. Paint sludge was used as partial replacement for mixing water after it was diluted to dry solids content of 10%, Geopolymer samples were also prepared with the same binders by using sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions along with diluted PS as activators. The samples were air cured for 28 days and their unconfined compressive strength (UCS) values were measured. The results were evaluated to find out the formulation for the highest UCS levels.
